Well we have one down and hopefully Deven will be next. Deven went in for his Kindergarten shots on Monday and to be tested by his doctor one more time to make sure he has a handle on his writing skills. We have been practicing and he has it down now! Next we have to register him for Kindergarten testing and then hope there will be space for him to start.
Deven did pretty good at the Doctor's. The doctor was sick and got there 45 minutes late, we had arrived 30 minutes early. Deven didn't get worried or stressed at all while waiting. He played with Tim and I. Did everything the nurse asked of him. Even let the nurse take his temperature under his tongue. Last time he saw the thermometer and thought is was his shot!!! When the doctor came in Deven was all smiles. He played some games with the doctor, the testing. The he gave the doctor a hug and we were left alone to wait for the nurse. 20 minutes later my lap was falling asleep from Deven sitting on it so I popped my head out the door and the nurse was finishing up filling the syringes. She grabbed another nurse and they came into the room.
Deven sat on the table with me sitting behind him. They asked me to hold his arms. One nurse stood on one side with 2 syringes, the other nurse on the other side with 2 more syringes. They looked at each other then at me. One of the nurses asked Deven to make funny faces at daddy and when he turned his head both nurses stuck him.
He screamed.
He wriggled.
He yelled "mommy it hurts."
I cried.
Tim...laughed.... He was so nervous and was standing away from everyone because there was no room. I knew he had been nervous but when I looked up and saw that I knew how nervous he really was.
The nurses grabbed the other syringes and both stuck him again.
More screaming, not quite as high pitched.
A little bit of wriggling.
No yelling.
Lots of crying, by both of us.
The nurses put on the band aids and backed quickly out of the room. Tim helped me pull up Deven's pants and we gave him his blanket. Tim asked if there was anything else and in my agitation I forgot we needed to wait for the shot records so we grabbed Deven and took off.
For his pain and effort he got a Strawberry shake from Carl's Jr. (ooops out here it is Hardee's). We came home and he went down for a nice long nap. After I got Dylan home from school he became the best big brother. Making sure Deven was having fun, bringing him things, he even picked up and carried deven at one point because Deven was to sore to walk. That was a funny site, Dylan is only a couple of inches taller then Deven and so Deven's feet were dangling about a half inch about the ground. I was proud of my big boy. I know how he doesn't like when Deven gets more attention then him but he rose to the occasion like a perfect little gentleman.
Deven is much better now. His left leg swelled up and got very warm to the touch for about 2 days. Now the swelling is gone and all that is left is a baseball sized bruise. Dylan is happy that he is back to getting his share of attention and I am just tired!!!!
