Last day of July

Tomorrow starts our third month in Indiana! Can you believe it has been that long already? Dylan starts school in 13 days from tomorrow. He is growing up so fast and showing his growing pains! Deven feels it and is regressing a bit. He wants us to do everything for him again and is whining alot. We are settled in as much as we can be and though it is hard we are having fun. Our biggest problem right now is dinner! We are never sure if we are cooking, if Shannon's cooking or if everyone is on their own and that can be a little trying. Tim has to leave for work at 7pm and with Shannon working it is hard to make sure dinner is done by 6 so he can eat without inhaling. It is a source of stress but manageable. Shannon and I keep talking about setting up a schedule but we haven't yet and if I cook every night it will be roasts, steaks, pork, spaghetti or burritos. It is to warm for soups and I have not mastered cooking yet.
Today we went by this place called 7 Pillars, it is a protected area here in Peru. It is beautiful, the Mississsnewa River runs through it and on one side is a 10 foot tall cliff of limestone that has these deep, almost cave like depressions in it. I, of course, didn't have my camera today. It had run out of batteries, so I will have to go back another day for pictures. I did save the coordinates in our GPS so I can find it though! Here is a blog I found on the 7 Pillars, click on the link to see a picture:
The Seven Pillars by tigger3Some years ago while camping in this area I saw a picture of the seven pillars in the store at the campground and of course I had to inquire. Then I had to go find them with help on directions from the store's owner. Here is some information on this wonderful region. The Mississinewa River originates in Ohio before taking its 100 mile journey west and north to the Wabash River near Peru in Miami County, Indiana. Its drainage area occupies an area of about 60 square miles. The river flows through a low, flat, wide valley and its water is shallow at normal stage and comparatively clear, except during prolonged heavy rain. Falling 3.3 feet to the mile, the Mississinewa is one of the swiftest streams in Indiana. The village of Chief Shepoconah once stood along the Mississinewa. His wife was Frances Slocum, who was captured from her Pennsylvania Quaker family in 1778 when she was just five years of age. Over fifty years later she was finally found and her family urged her to return to civilization. She decided to remain among "her people" and was buried in 1847. The river was named by the Miami Indians who called it "falling water". Many bloody battles were fought between the Americans and Miamis along the Mississinewa River before the Indians were finally subdued. Today, a 12,000 acre reservoir covers much of this historical area. It was built to control flooding and to provide recreation in the form of boating, fishing, camping and picnicking and is operated by the Department of Natural Resources. The river has carved some unique geological features in the limestone, the most notable being the "Seven Pillars" which is about two miles below the Mississinewa Reservoir.
Wednesday morning I met with a friend of my fathers who is a real estate agent to see a house that is for rent! Again my camera was running out of batteries so I only got a couple of pictures of it. We are going back on Monday so I will take more pictures then. Its a two story 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath home. The bottom floor windows are all stained glass. It has a 4 season porch built on the front and a mudroom on the back. It has a two car garage and a small back yard! It is maybe a 6 minute walk to Miami Fort, the park I spoke about earlier. The first floor is all dark wood floors and a beautiful stair case. It has a Dinning room a Living room a Parlour with a window seat . The stair case also has a window seat with a stained glass window behind it. There are NO closets in the rooms but one big one in the hall upstairs. And the piece de resistance..... A PINK kitchen!!! EEEWWW its a shell pink, the walls, the cupboards the counter tops! All the same horrid color! Except for the lack of closets and that kitchen I love it! Tim got home from work late and was to tired to come with me so we are going again on Monday so he can see it.

This is the front of the house! Its a pale yellow with Dark Green Trim! How perfect is that?

This is the stair case, looking down, I love those windows!

This is the master bedroom windows, over looking the street, the other bedrooms have the same windows but one room is medium and the other is almost as big as the master.

Because of the roof this is what goes for the closets in every room.

This is the back yard from the windows in the smallest room.

This is the only full bath, upstairs, a bit outdated but do-able.

Here you can see the pick counters, that is the color of all the cabinets also. If you see the room to the right, there is a built in china cabinet with glass doors and then a built in bar with drawers!

We still want to look a bit more, the kitchen is tiny but I still love the house, the architecture and the over all feel of the house. The owner is trying to sell it for $69,000, and if it had a bigger yard we might consider taking it on, though it would be a big project! But for $600 a month I would be happy to give it a little TLC!
