Lunch Time

Deven and I volunteered at Dylan's school today at lunch time. I get to help the students open their milk cartons and applesauce packs and get them ketchup and anything they might have forgotten. I get to help them find a seat in the right area and make sure they follow the rules. Deven gets to follow behind me, smile shyly, bury his head in my stomach and talk to the 3 kids he is not scared of, one of which is Dylan!
Today Deven brought his lunch and ate with Dylan. The other students are really nice to Deven and say hi and ask him questions. For me they count or tell me about their ouchies. One cute redhead today was letting me know where all my food came from, milk is from cows, ketchup from tomatoes....etc... It is really fun to be in there and listen to the kids. One little girl had in new earrings and her seat mate doesn't wear earrings because they hurt her. One little boy was upset because his classmate kept calling the sausage that was serves a weenie!
Yesterday morning Deven and I were the greeter. We hold open the front door to the school open and greet all the students as they come through. A couple students like to give a high five on the way in. Most of the students are to shy to do more then smile if they even give me a smile. Deven was upset when some of the kids didn't say good morning back to him. It was the first time I have seen Deven talk to people on his own. Even at lunch today he was being shy but as a door greeter he say good morning without any prompting!
We seem to be doing well with the school stuff. Dylan came home with two notes for exemplary behavior last week. Our first fundraiser has started and even though Dylan was to sick to sell anything this weekend he is more then willing to make up for it now!
We have 3 boxes left to unpack and a few things to buy. Finances are tight right now but manageable. We are hoping that this weekend we can finally get back to our Sunday outings, the first place, Mishawaka, for Del Taco!!!!!
