Tuesday

Well this weekend was fairly uneventful. We spent a lot of time driving around again. Tim decided on Sunday he wanted to drive, to help him get to know the area better so I handed over the keys and jumped in to the passenger seat where I promptly took over the radio! The kids were excited that Tim was driving, they always want him to drive, not sure why?!!?!?! So we head out on US 31, thinking we are going to go see Notre Dame but we forgot the camera so we hit US24 and head toward Ft. Wayne. The last time we went to Ft.Wayne was when we had "Mexican" food and I got sick so I was not overly thrilled to go back but we decided we would choose an American restaurant when we got there!
The sky was beautiful, this bright blue color with huge puffy clouds! It was in the low 80's and it made it very pleasant to have the windows down. You could feel a bit of rain in the air, though you couldn't see it in the sky yet.
As we drive we see a couple of fairly large towns we have heard of but haven't visited yet, but every time we see the signs it is a bit to late to turn off the highway, we'd have to go to the next street and make a U-turn and who knows how long it will be before the next street!
So we are content that we are just going to head straight to Ft.Wayne, none of our usual detours. Then I look up and see a sign the says "Bippus". I start laughing and Tim asks me whats so funny so I tell him about the town we just passed. He thinks that you just can't pass up a city named Bippus, I mean the jokes you get from that...He don't know Bippus".....etc. So we make a U-Turn and head for Bippus.
The road to Bippus is the 105 and it is straight, and hilly! Whoever said Indiana was flat has never been to Bippus! Every time we would crest one hill I'd feel my stomach floating just above my throat and as we came down the other side it felt as if my stomach had lodged itself behind my vocal cords, to scared to fall back into place. This went on for about 10 miles before we came anywhere near Bippus, which as you can imagine was a little spit of a town. There were maybe 6 buildings in downtown, one of which was a church. The rest of the way through downtown was houses and as you left the area the houses got further and further apart in true country style. As we made our way back to US24, with the help of our GPS unit, we say lots of horses and their pony's! The kids were pointing out the different crops, wheat, corn, and soy. By the time we made it to Richard's Restaurant Tim had made himself carsick, a long with me and we decided I would drive for the rest of the day!
We ate a decent meal at Richards, though most of the patrons were 70 and above and more then a few needed walkers to get around. When we left we wanted to check out Ft.Wayne since the last trip had been cut short.
There are some beautiful homes in Ft.Wayne. There are not many track homes in Indiana, yet, though they are starting to pop up. The streets are always lined with trees and the houses under the gorgeous canopies of trees are sometimes nice and sometimes...not so nice. We enjoyed driving around and as we were we found...dum dum da dum.. Barnes and Noble! Yay!!! We also spied Logan's Roadhouse another Mexican restaurant, with a real Hispanic name and a few other stores, including the second Starbucks in a 55 mile radius from Peru!
The sky had begum darkening as we were checking out the area and I was anxious to have it rain but it stayed back. We could feel the sweetness and chill in the air and the clouds with thick and gray. It was ripe for a downpour but the bank of clouds were parallel to us and headed east, where as we were driving back to Peru, West. Well South West. So we get to dads house and decide to go to a party for Shannon's cousin at Highland park and head out. Deven was feeling really shy and was having tummy troubles so we were there maybe an hour when we took Deven home. We left Dylan with Dad and Shannon, he was enjoying all the attention he was getting from his "new family".
Finally as we headed back to Peru we could see the clouds in the distance and the lightening started. Three bolts at once in front of us, then the same to the right of us. Deven was in heaven pointing out the clouds and lightning. Then it hit! It poured down on us, huge, fat drops of rain. The windshield wipers on high could barely keep up and the traffic slowed to about 30mph. It lasted 8 miles or so and then it was blue skies. The storm had just left Peru and left a huge puddle in dads drive way!
Dad and Shannon and Dylan got back about a hour and a half later, the saw 10 minutes of lighter rain while they were still at the party and that was it! The weather around here really doesn't last very long, but it sure is nice when it comes around!
