Today was Dylan's first day of Kindergarten! He was a bit apprehensive this morning, he didn't jump up and get dressed, he only ate a handful of cereal and didn't drink any of the milk in the bowl.
Thankfully Tim was able to get off of work early and join us in taking Dylan.

Deven had to be like his brother so he has a back back too!
When we got there we were let into the main building where we were told which teacher Dylan had and then lined him up int the Gym with his other classmates, he was lined up with Cat in the Hat! Each teacher has a book character to help the students distinguish where to line up. Dylan's teacher in Mrs. Thompson and she is in room 7! I was glad to hear that, 7 is my number and I had a Mrs.Thompson and she was a wonderful teacher! Dylan was a little fretful after he sat in line waiting for his teacher to come get his class. Tim went over and talked to him for a minute and calmed him down. The teacher's finally came out and we walked with them to the classroom. Mrs. Thompson had the students names on their place at one of two long tables that serve as the students desks. Dylan walked right up to his teacher and said. "my name is spelled D-Y-L-A-N" and so his teacher showed him to his seat! Her room is very colorful and very packed with all sorts of stuff. We got Dylan seated and said goodbye, by that time he was more excited and barely noticed that we left!

Deven was out of sorts and whining a lot. He had said to Deven at least three times, "I will miss you brudder", which didn't seem to go over well with Dylan, he was to preoccupied with everything to pay much attention to his little brother. When we got home though things changed for Deven. He found out he could watch whatever movie he wanted with out having to compromise! We watched 4 episodes of Hard Hat Harry! (Yuck)
Deven took a nap while I tried to read but I was watching the clock to much to get into my book. Around two Deven woke up and we sat on the back patio with Dad. Dad and Deven were playing while I kept picking up my phone to check the time. At 2:30 I decided that that was close enough to 3 to leave. Deven was very happy to be heading out to pick up Dylan. We got there in less then 5 minutes and thankfully we weren't the only ones there! I looked over the other mothers and the couple of fathers. I may be 28 but don't really see myself as an "adult" and I was looking at these other mothers, and realized that they are about my age and that when people look at me they see the "adult" that I see when I look at other people! It was a weird thought but hey, I had no one to talk to, Deven was to shy to talk to any other little brothers or sisters waiting with us!
We waited in the lobby of the school for the kids to come out and Dylan's teacher was the first one. I looked as other kids ran to their parents for big hugs and camera's flashed but Dylan was no where to be seen. I thought maybe he was still in the class room so I waited until the flow from the other classes became a trickle and I walked to the hall to look down and see if I could see Dylan. A bit of panic started to settle in and another mother had a look on her face that mirrored my worry. Her son had not come out with his class either. I decided to go to the front of the school, maybe, in the confusion, Dylan had walked right past us. I grabbed Deven's hand and turned around. I saw one of the teachers bent down talking to a little kid and I glanced down and saw a familiar pair of shoes. I walked toward them and called out Dylan's name. His head whipped up and I could see the tears in his eyes. I kneeled down and he rushed towards me and we were both crying. The teacher was explaining to me that they thought he was a bus rider and had taken him to the Gym to wait for the buses but they finally understood that he was supposed to be picked up out front by me. I looked up to thank her and her eyes got big,"aw don't cry," she said to me," your gonna make me bawl!" I chuckled and gather myself, I gave Dylan another big hug and stood up and we left.
Dylan was very excited about his day. He says he has a girlfriend but that he can't tell me her name because it's a secret, in Dylan code that means he has no idea what her name is. He talked about how fun school was but couldn't give me any specifics except that he ate all his lunch except the raisins! When we got back Tim had just woken up so we told him about Dylan's day. Dylan and Deven were running in circles on the patio and Dylan had stopped and said, my hearts pumping fast, then stood their for a minute and said "I love my girlfriend, that's why my hearts pumping so fast" and gave us a big grin.
All in all the day went well. I shed some tears when we dropped him off and a few more when I picked him up. He is looking forward to tomorrow but we had to convince him that it would be ok to take the bus. After this afternoon he is not so sure about taking the bus, but this too shall pass!
